According to champagne erxpet, Ed McCarthy, your gift will be ruined if they leave it in the refrigerator for a whole year. Mr. McCarthy recommends leaving a good bottle in the fridge no longer than a week.Storing champagne is tricky. Your friends would do well to look into a professional wine storage facility if they really want to wait for their first anniversary to open the bottle.References : You can find this question addressed directly by Ed McCarthy in an interview posted on CNN.com just do a google search for "champagne storage" and follow the CNN link.
