The company was founded by Wilhelm Mast in the year 1878 in Wolfenbüttel. In 1934 his son, Curt Mast, developed the recipe for the herb liqueur to be known as "Jägermeister". The brand was introduced to the consumer market in 1935, at which point the brand name, the label and the Hubertus stag head were protected as trademarks.
Today, the company trades as a family-owned public company with its roots firmly planted in the lower Saxon region, where it produces at two locations. Since 1996, Jägermeister has been bottled in the Saxon town of Kamenz in one of Europe's most modern production facilities.
Over half of all sales come from international markets - more than 60 countries around the world. Jägermeister currently ranks no. 13 in Impact International's relevant list of the top 100 premium spirits worldwide.
