Tenute dei Vallarino
Tenute dei Vallarino
Azienda Agricola Tenute dei Vallarino is the product of the passion and desire of the fifth generation of the Vallarino Gancia family, made up of Edoardo, Lamberto and Massimiliano, to consolidate a link with their land, with the aim of developing great Piemontese wines.
Despite dedicating themselves mainly to the world of Spumante, the Family has always had numerous links with wine. Right from the start they owned vineyards in the Langhe, and a hamlet of La Morra is even named Borgata Gancia. At the beginning of the last century, Camillo Gancia bought Mirafiore di Serralunga d’Alba Wines from Count Gastone of Mirafiore, nephew of King Victor Emanuel II of Savoy, who was very active in political life in Piedmont, holding office as president of Alba’s School of Viticulture and Oenology for many years.
Today the aim of the fifth generation of the family is to directly control the estates in the areas with the best exposure and the lands, which are best suited to the production of great Monferrato and Langhe wines. The desire is to enhance the value of Piedmont’s autochthonous grape varieties.
The passion and experience matured through the generations have led to the establishment of the Azienda Agricola Tenute dei Vallarino Estate with the purchase, after an extensive search, of the Tenuta Bricco Asinari Estate in the borough of San Marzano Oliveto, in Valle Asinari and more precisely in the province of Asti.
The vineyards enjoy a south-westerly exposure and extensive thermal development, and are situated at an altitude of between 200 and 250 metres above sea level. Since the time of Marquis Filippo Asinari di San Marzano (1767-1828), the estate has been famous for having constantly produced great wines, even in less fortunate years.
The estate covers an area of 13.79 hectares, 13.69 of which are cultivated with vineyards. The grape varieties grown are Barbera, Nebbiolo, Cabernet, Merlot and Moscato.
