Bacardi

Bacardi Rum

Bacardi is one of the world’s most famous international brands. Some 500 descendants own the company. Today, Bacardi remains the only major privately held spirits company, with more than 6,000 dedicated employees and with a presence in 170 nations. Bacardi is the world’s second largest alcoholic company in terms of global cases volume.

Bacardi rum is associated with Puerto Rico because the rum sold in the U.S. is made in that island and is clearly labeled as such in the bottles for the American market. In addition, if you have ever traveled to Puerto Rico, you are most likely to have toured the largest distillery in the world, which happens to be the Bacardi Rum Factory, located across the San Juan harbor. During the Cold War, marketing the Bacardi Rum as Cuban would not have been very well received by the American people. Now, with changing times, Bacardi is finally mentioning its Cuban origins in the back label of its rum bottles, giving credit to its long-standing heritage that started in Santiago.
